Seriously... the guy has a busted wrist and looked overpowered on the first few pitches. He wasn't going to get around on one of those fastballs.

I would call that a situation where you needed a strikeout.

Off speed pitch... deep fly to left... and somehow the Giants with the makeshift lineup consisting of guys with torn biceps, hurt wrists and the 16th caller on KNBR are one win away from the World Series.

The Giants win on June 7th looms large now

I bet when the Giants came from behind to beat the Reds on June 7th of this year, neither Giants nor Reds fans thought it was a big deal.

There was still 2/3 of a season left to play and who was going to remember a game that Enerio Del Rosario let up a go ahead RBI single to Juan Uribe?

It looks pretty important now...

Hear me out.

Right now, I think nobody in the National League wants to face the Phillies in a best of 5 series. Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels are all pitching like aces. Good luck winning 3 out of 5.

Stretched out over 7... maybe you can pull it off.

With the National League as tight as it is, home field advantage in the Division Series (and avoiding Philly's big 3) right now would come down to the NL Central leading Reds and the NL West leading Giants.

Both teams have identical records, 83-64.

So playoff seeding and essentially home field advantage (and avoiding Philadelphia) will be decided by their head to head record.

The Giants and Reds are done playing each other in the regular season. Their final season series record?

Giants 4 wins... Reds 3 wins.

So because the Giants won one more game head to head, THEY would open the playoffs at home and the Reds would travel to Philly.

Each win the Giants had over the Reds is now looming large... especially that 1 run come from behind win in June that I bet nobody noticed.

15 games left Giants. They are ALL big now... as big as the June 7th game.

3 is a big number for the Giants right now

The number 3 is retired at AT&T Park in San Francisco for former New York Giant great Bill Terry. He was a Hall of Fame first baseman and was the player/manager for the 1933 World Champion Giants.

I bet most Giant fans have no clue who he is.

But they should be thinking about his number in regards to the playoff push.

They were sunk tonight in Los Angeles... down 4-0 in the 7th... down 4-3 in the 9th inning... they were on the verge of letting wasting another chance to take advantage of the Padres struggles.

Then Juan Uribe did his best Brian Johnson impersonation and slugged a gigantic homer against L.A.

It was a big one... one of those if the Giants DO win this Division, it will be shown again and again on the Diamondvision by China Basin.

The standings say the Giants are 2 games back of the freefalling Padres.

Actually they are 3 back in the loss column, which is probably a better barometer of what the Giants have to do.

They are also 3 games behind the Phillies for the Wild Card. Now granted, the Phillies look like a run away freight train. Good luck stopping them.

But the Giants have 26 games to make up 3 in the loss column to these two teams.
They come to San Diego for four games next weekend.

And how does the season end? With a series between the Giants and the Padres in San Francisco.
